Check if your device is on the supported list
eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your phone. Not every device supports it — older phones and some regional variants don't have the hardware. Before buying a travel eSIM plan, it's worth checking that your device is compatible. Most smartphones released after 2018 support eSIM, but there are exceptions: China-variant iPhones, some US carrier-locked Samsungs, and older budget Android phones may not work.

Select flagship models (varies by region)
Support varies by model and country of sale.
iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR (2018) and all newer iPhones support eSIM — including the SE 2nd and 3rd generation. The only exception is iPhones purchased in mainland China, which use dual physical SIM trays instead of eSIM.
Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Note20 series, Z Fold, and Z Flip models all include eSIM hardware. However, many US carrier-locked variants (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) have eSIM disabled. If you purchased your Galaxy unlocked or outside the US, it's likely fully eSIM capable.
If your device isn't listed, the easiest way to check is to go to Settings and look for 'Add eSIM' or 'Add mobile plan'. If you see that option, your phone supports eSIM. If not, you'll need a physical SIM for travel data.
Yes. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked to install a third-party travel eSIM. If your phone is locked to a specific carrier, contact them to request an unlock — this is usually free after your contract ends.
